Marcus Urelius, Possession of Child Pornography, Iowa 2023

A Farnhamville, Iowa man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, according to a recent federal court filing.

Marcus Urelius, 36, admitted to using an Internet-based peer-to-peer network known as "Freenet" to knowingly receive and attempt to receive visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between April 2021 and January 2022.

He also admitted to sharing child pornography with others using the same network.

Urelius faces a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment without the possibility of parole, a fine of not more than $250,000, a mandatory special assessment of $100, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years to life.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The case was investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kraig R. Hamit.

Urelius remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing, which will be set for a later date after a presentence report is prepared.
