Published July 9, 2019

Methamphetamine has plagued South Dakota's communities for far too long, and those responsible will be brought to justice.

In a recent case, Marilyn Ducheneaux, a 22-year-old woman from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

The charges against Ducheneaux stemmed from an investigation by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, which uncovered evidence of her involvement in the distribution and possession of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, in South Dakota from a time unknown but no later than January 1, 2016, to October 16, 2018.

Ducheneaux was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 16, 2018, and entered a guilty plea on April 1, 2019. As a result of her conviction, she was also ordered to pay a $500 fine and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case, which highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in combating the illegal drug trade.

Ducheneaux's sentence serves as a reminder that those involved in the distribution of methamphetamine will face severe consequences and be held accountable for their actions.
