Orlando, Florida — A former minister from Winter Garden has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in a child pornography case.

According to court documents, Mark Daniel DeHaven, 33, was sentenced to eight years and one month in federal prison for receiving child pornography. The sentencing took place on an undisclosed date in 2024, in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, before United States District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza.

The investigation into DeHaven's activities began on April 8, 2014, when the Winter Garden Police Department received a report from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office about a cyber-crime tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Further investigation revealed that DeHaven had received images depicting children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at DeHaven's residence on June 10, 2014, and seized several computers and electronic media. Forensic analyses of the equipment revealed the extent of DeHaven's involvement in the child pornography ring.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Ilianys Rivera Miranda.

DeHaven's sentencing is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. As part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, federal, state, and local resources are being marshaled to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
