Published November 20, 2024

A federal court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has handed down a severe sentence to Mark Kriss, a 66-year-old resident of Freedom, for his involvement in the sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to court documents, Kriss made contact with a 14-year-old minor over an adult dating website and, on May 22, 2021, received digital photographs from the minor depicting her sexual exploitation.

Not only did Kriss receive these disturbing images, but he also acknowledged responsibility for meeting the minor for the purpose of engaging in sex acts at a local motel.

U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the sentencing, stating that Kriss would serve 74 months in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

As part of his sentence, Kriss will also be required to register as a sex offender under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and pay restitution in the amount of $3,000 to the minor victim.

The investigation leading to Kriss's conviction was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Northern Regional Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
