Marquette Lamont Lawson, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Iowa 2020

Grimy Times has uncovered another disturbing case of a sex offender failing to register, leaving the public at risk.

Marquette Lamont Lawson, a 48-year-old Chicago man, was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in Iowa. This egregious offense took place between May 2017 to February 12, 2018, while Lawson was residing and working in the Hawkeye State.

Lawson's failure to register was a direct result of his prior conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse on January 11, 1989, in Cook County, Illinois. As a convicted sex offender, Lawson is required by law to register his whereabouts with the authorities.

Lawson's sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the 51-month prison term, Lawson will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his prison term is complete. It's worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist and investigated by the United States Marshals Service. Lawson is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
