Local Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Firearms Charge

LARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Marquise Hicks, of Morgantown, West Virginia, was sentenced to 60 months of incarceration for a firearms charge, Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced.

Hicks, 27, pled guilty to one count of 'Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Offense' in November 2020. Hicks admitted to having a 9mm pistol while in possession of marijuana in August 2019 in Monongalia County.

The investigation into Hicks' case was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Monongalia County Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.

According to officials, Hicks' sentence is a result of his guilty plea to the firearms charge. Hicks will serve 60 months in federal prison for his crime.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing firearms laws and preventing the proliferation of guns in furtherance of illicit activities.
