Marshall Belden, Jr., Child Pornography, Ohio 2016
A Canton man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for his involvement in child pornography crimes.
Marshall Belden, Jr., 70, previously pleaded guilty to receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Belden was sentenced to 103 months in federal prison for his crimes.
The charges against Belden stem from two incidents. On October 24, 2016, he knowingly received and distributed numerous computer files containing visual depictions of real minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
These files had been shipped and transported in and affecting interstate and foreign commerce, according to court documents.
On January 26, 2017, Belden possessed a computer and an external hard drive, each of which contained child pornography, further solidifying the evidence against him.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Sullivan following an investigation by the Canton office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Canton Police Department.
Belden's sentence is a result of his guilty plea, which acknowledged his involvement in the child pornography crimes.
The exact location and details of Belden's crimes are not specified in the official documents.
The Canton Police Department and the Canton office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation worked together to gather evidence and build the case against Belden.
As a result of his crimes, Belden will serve 103 months in federal prison.
