A federal grand jury in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has returned several indictments against local residents. Marvin L. Bennett, 37, of Fort Wayne, is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm on or about October 21, 2013. The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of a firearm and ammunition.
Bennett’s charge was filed as a result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Lovita Morris King has been assigned to prosecute the case.
According to court documents, Bennett is accused of possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon. If convicted, Bennett could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The United States Attorney’s Office emphasized that an indictment is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
In related news, several other individuals have been charged with various crimes in Fort Wayne. Eddie L. Carlisle, 25, is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm on or about September 14, 2013. Preston R. Craig, 40, is charged with possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute, maintaining a drug involved premises, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The cases were filed as a result of investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Anthony W. Geller and Lovita Morris King have been assigned to prosecute the cases.
The United States Attorney’s Office is committed to enforcing federal laws and protecting the citizens of Northern Indiana. The office will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those who engage in violent and organized crime.
