Mashaq White, Firearms Offense, Pennsylvania 2020
A West Philadelphia man has been sentenced to nine years and two months in prison for a firearms offense that occurred during the 2020 civil unrest in the city.
Mashaq White, 24, was found in possession of a loaded firearm with 18 rounds of ammunition during a burglary in progress at a looted Rite-Aid store at 57th and Chestnut Streets in West Philadelphia on June 1, 2020.
According to the United States Attorney's Office, White was seen drilling into an ATM machine at the front of the store with a companion before his arrest.
White pleaded guilty to the one-count indictment charging the firearms offense in October 2021.
U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero said the office is committed to prosecuting those who commit violent crimes, including illegally possessing firearms, which is a federal crime.
The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James R. Pavlock.
