Sex Offender Registration Failure Lands 48-Year-Old Man Behind Bars

Syracuse, NY - In a case of failing to register as a sex offender, Matthew Lamb, 48, of DeRuyter, New York, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by 16 years of supervised release by the federal court in Syracuse.

Lamb's sentencing came after his guilty plea to two counts of failing to register and update his registration as a previously convicted sex offender. He admitted to having two email addresses that he failed to disclose to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (“SORNA”).

As part of his guilty plea, Lamb admitted to failing to register a Yahoo! email address created on December 10, 2001, from May 3, 2016, through May 13, 2019, and failing to register and update his registration to disclose a Google email address created on April 16, 2019, from April 27, 2018, through May 13, 2019.

Lamb was required to register as a sex offender due to his 2012 federal conviction for distribution of child pornography, receipt of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. He was sentenced on December 6, 2012, to serve 84 months in prison and a 20-year term of supervised release on that conviction.

In addition to his plea to the failure to register and update a registration as a sex offender, Lamb also admitted to violating the terms of his supervised release previously imposed from his 2012 conviction. He was sentenced to a consecutive 12 months in prison for those violations.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Thomson as part of Project Safe Childhood. Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a federal initiative aimed at combating child exploitation and obscenity.
