Matthew Lamb, Failure to Register as Sex Offender, New York 2021

A DeRuyter man has admitted to failing to register and update his sex offender registration, announced Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon and United States Marshal David L. McNulty.

Matthew Lamb, 48, of DeRuyter, New York, pled guilty yesterday to two felony counts of failing to register and update a registration as a sex offender. He admitted to failing to register a Yahoo! e-mail address that he created on December 10, 2001, as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (“SORNA”).

Lamb also admitted to failing to register and update his registration to disclose a Google e-mail address that he created on April 16, 2019, as required by SORNA. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 10, 2021, before Chief Judge Glenn T. Suddaby.

According to the charges, Lamb failed to register the Yahoo! e-mail address from May 3, 2016 through May 13, 2019. He also failed to register and update his registration to disclose the Google e-mail address from April 27, 2018 through May 13, 2019.

Lamb faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshal Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Thomson.

Lamb is currently awaiting sentencing. This case is a reminder of the importance of sex offender registration and the consequences of failing to comply with the requirements.
