Matthew Ray Hutcherson, Illegal Firearm Possession, Oklahoma 2021

A federal judge in Oklahoma City has sentenced Matthew Ray Hutcherson, 32, of Choctaw, to serve 8 years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession.

Hutcherson, a convicted felon, was found guilty of one count of being a felon in possession of firearms, a federal crime. The charge arose after his ex-girlfriend reported that he pointed a firearm to her head, leading authorities to search his residence for firearms, which they found.

Public records reflect that Hutcherson had previous convictions for child endangerment, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, child abuse by injury, and driving under the influence.

Additionally, Hutcherson has a long history of domestic abuse, with six different protective orders filed in Oklahoma County, including by his grandmother, mother, and ex-girlfriends.

At today's sentencing, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell cited Hutcherson's criminal history and the danger he posed to the community.

Hutcherson pleaded guilty to the indictment on September 8, 2021.

The case is part of 'Operation 922,' the Western District of Oklahoma's implementation of Project Safe Neighborhood, a Department of Justice initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.

Assistant United States Attorneys Stan West and Chelsie Pratt prosecuted the case.

The United States Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case.
