Matthew Ryan McCauley, Meth Conspiracy, Iowa 2013
A man from Whittemore, Iowa, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
Matthew Ryan McCauley, 33, was sentenced on February 5, 2013, to 120 months' imprisonment for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.
Mccauley pleaded guilty to the charges on September 17, 2012, after being involved in the conspiracy from December 2010 to May 2012. During this time, he was responsible for at least 50 grams of actual methamphetamine and at least 100 grams of pseudoephedrine for the manufacture of methamphetamine.
On May 2, 2012, Mccauley was involved in a controlled transaction with an undercover law enforcement officer, in which he traded approximately 0.25 grams of methamphetamine for 20 pseudoephedrine pills. He planned to use the pseudoephedrine to manufacture methamphetamine.
Mccauley was previously convicted of possession of a controlled substance, 1st offense (cocaine), in October 2008, and possession of a precursor with intent to manufacture methamphetamine in April 2003, both in Iowa.
He was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and Mccauley must serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Mccauley is being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by Kossuth County Sheriff's Office, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force.
