Matthew Wilhelm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth, South Dakota 2016

A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 60 months in custody for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

On March 19, 2015, Matthew Wilhelm, age 40, obtained distributable quantities of methamphetamine, which he intended to distribute within South Dakota.

This case was investigated by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team, United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ted L. McBride and Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case.

Wilhelm pled guilty on August 14, 2015, and was sentenced on January 22, 2016, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court.

As part of his sentence, Wilhelm was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

He will also serve 4 years of supervised release following his 60-month prison term.

Wilhelm was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
