Maurice Anthony Streater, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, South Dakota 2022

An Ohio man was sentenced to prison for failing to register as a sex offender in South Dakota.

Maurice Anthony Streater, 32, of Toledo, Ohio, was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

Streater was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a requirement he had to meet after being previously convicted of a sex offense in state court.

The crime dates back to between January 1, 2021, and September 9, 2021, during which time Streater failed to register as a sex offender as required by state law.

Streater was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of 2021 and pleaded guilty on June 15, 2022.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann M. Hoffman prosecuted the case.

Streater was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
