Oklahoma Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

A disturbing tale of corruption within the US Postal Service has come to light in Oklahoma. Megan Lee McMahand, a 37-year-old resident of Broken Arrow, has pleaded guilty to embezzling mail entrusted to her while working as a postal employee.

According to the indictment, on July 24, 2013, McMahand willfully, knowingly, and unlawfully embezzled a package while performing her duties as a US Postal Service employee. The United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, launched an investigation into the matter, leading to McMahand's indictment in November 2013.

The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted McMahand's guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled following its completion, with McMahand remaining on bond pending sentencing.

The statutory range of punishment for this crime is up to 5 years' imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson represented the United States in this case.
