Melvin P. Potts, Methamphetamine Distribution, Wisconsin 2020

A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, returned an indictment charging Melvin P. Potts, 33, Madison, Wisconsin, with six counts of distributing methamphetamine in July through September 2020.

The indictment alleges that one of the distributions involved 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The indictment also charges that on September 15, 2020, Potts possessed 50 grams or more of methamphetamine for distribution.

If convicted, Potts faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison on the two counts alleging distribution or possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and a maximum penalty of 20 years on each of the other five counts.

The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Dane County Narcotics Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Corey is handling the prosecution.

Potts is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
