Michael Almodovar, Stealing and Selling Catalytic Converters, Connecticut 2022
A New Haven man has admitted to stealing and selling catalytic converters across Connecticut, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Michael Almodovar, 30, also known as 'Eme ElColorado,' pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property in federal court in Hartford.
The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division (IRS-CI), and the East Hartford Police Department, revealed that Almodovar sold stolen catalytic converters to Downpipe Depot & Recycling LLC, a business with a warehouse in East Hartford.
Between March 2022 and May 2022, Downpipe Depot paid Almodovar $34,445 for the stolen catalytic converters.
Almodovar was arrested on November 28, 2023, and is currently being held pending sentencing.
He faces up to 15 years in prison for his crimes.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren C. Clark and A. Reed Durham.
