Sioux Falls Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine

A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 188 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the District of South Dakota.

Michael Anthony Williams, 35, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on August 8, 2019, following a guilty plea in May of the same year.

The conviction stems from incidents beginning on an unknown date and continuing through November 6, 2018, when Williams, along with at least one other person, knowingly reached an agreement to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine.

As part of the sentence, Williams will also serve 5 years of supervised release and pay a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

According to authorities, drug trafficking is an inherently violent activity, often involving firearms. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making communities safer.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Nash prosecuting the case. Williams was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
