A Summit County man has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for drug trafficking offenses. Michael D. Johnson was sentenced on June 28, 2024 by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
According to the Department of Justice, Johnson was designated as a career offender due to his prior convictions. He was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The sentencing was the result of a two-year long investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Birmingham Police Department, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Johnson's sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Emily M. Marks. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael P. Whisonant.
