Michael J. Dow, Heroin Distribution, West Virginia 2014

BECKLEY, W.Va. - A local man has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to heroin distribution in federal court.

According to court records, Michael J. Dow, 44, of Beckley, West Virginia, admitted to selling heroin to a cooperating individual on F Street in Beckley, West Virginia on March 2, 2014.

The Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit led the investigation into the case.

As a result of the guilty plea, Dow faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. United States District Judge Irene C. Berger has scheduled the sentencing for December 4, 2014.

This case is part of an ongoing effort by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.

The United States Attorney's Office has committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin.

Dow's guilty plea marks another significant step forward in the fight against heroin distribution in our community.

The case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
