Michael Jones, Jr., Drug Trafficking and Firearms Offenses, Pennsylvania 2021
SCRANTON, Pa. - A Wilkes-Barre man has been indicted for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking and firearms ring, authorities announced today.
Michael Jones, Jr., 40, was charged with conspiracy to traffic at least 280 grams of crack cocaine and 40 grams of fentanyl, as well as possession of crack cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. He is also accused of possessing a stolen firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.
The indictment alleges that Jones conspired with others to traffic the drugs between December 2020 and March 14, 2021. On March 14-15, 2021, he allegedly possessed the stolen firearm and the controlled substances with the intent to distribute.
Jones is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior felony conviction, according to authorities.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Pennsylvania State Police and the Wilkes-Barre Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case.
The indictment is part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic of heroin trafficking. The Heroin Initiative targets heroin traffickers operating in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and is a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who commit heroin-related offenses.
Jones is currently at large and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
