Michael Limkemann, Gun Charge, Iowa 2020
A man who illegally possessed a gun has pleaded guilty in federal court in Sioux City, Iowa.
Michael Limkemann, 35, of Clarksville, Iowa, was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm as a felon and user of controlled substances.
Limkemann was previously convicted of felony drug and weapons crimes, making it illegal for him to possess a gun.
At the plea hearing, Limkemann admitted to giving a .22 rifle to another drug user in May or September 2019 and possessing the rifle while using methamphetamine and marijuana.
Limkemann faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and not more than 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
He remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program to reduce violent crime.
PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
The case is also part of Project Guardian, the Department of Justice's signature initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.
Limkemann is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and was investigated by the Clarksville Police Department, Butler County Sheriff's Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Enforcement.
