Michael R. Smith, Embezzlement, Alabama 2024
A Hinsdale, Alabama man pleaded guilty to embezzling approximately $345,000 from his employer, announced United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, Sean P. Costello.
According to court documents, Michael R. Smith, 47, of Hinsdale, Alabama, embezzled the funds from his employer between 2019 and 2021.
Smith was charged with one count of embezzlement in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 657. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Whisonant.
