Michael Riley, Receipt of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Pennsylvania 2020
A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in receiving child sexual abuse material, according to federal authorities. Michael Riley, 35, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was convicted of Receipt of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan imposed the sentence on Riley, who used a computer issued to him by his employer to knowingly receive and attempt to receive visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, namely videos. The crime occurred from January 2, 2020, through March 3, 2020.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Riley.
According to information presented to the court, Riley's actions were in violation of federal law, which prohibits the receipt and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Riley will serve six years in prison and seven years of supervised release. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and protecting children from exploitation.
