Michelle Andre, Misbranding Medication, Louisiana 2024

Published January 22, 2024

A Houma doctor has been charged with distributing misbranded injectable contraceptives to patients.

According to court documents, Michelle Andre, age 48, a physician residing in Houma, La., introduced misbranded drugs, including medroxyprogesterone, into interstate commerce from April 2018 through March 2023.

The medroxyprogesterone lacked adequate directions for use in its labeling, violating 21 U.S.C. § 331.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the charges on January 9, 2024. If convicted, Andre faces up to one year in prison and up to one year of supervised release.

The Food and Drug Administration praised the work of the FDA in this case.

Assistant United States Attorneys Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit and Paul Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit are in charge of the prosecution.

Andre's actions put the health and well-being of her patients at risk, and we are glad that she is facing consequences for her actions.
