Miguel Torres, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Kansas 2015

A Kansas man was sentenced to 47 months in federal prison for his role in a multi-state methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Miguel Torres, 22, of Kansas City, Missouri, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in connection with a March 14, 2015, incident on Interstate 70 in Geary County.

Torres was driving a BMW at speeds reaching 111 miles per hour when a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop him, according to court documents. After a brief chase, Torres was apprehended and found to be in possession of approximately 22 pounds of methamphetamine.

Investigators determined that Torres was paid $6,000 to transport the illicit substances from Riverside, California, to the Kansas City area.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard for their work on the case.

Torres' sentence was handed down Monday in federal court, bringing closure to a case that highlighted the dangers of methamphetamine trafficking in the region.

The 47-month sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the defendant's role in the operation. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement's efforts to combat the flow of illicit substances into our communities.
