Mikal Hamilton, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Missouri 2019

Mikal Hamilton, 28, of St. Louis, MO, has pleaded guilty to one felony count of felon in possession of a firearm. The crime took place on January 15, 2019.

A St. Louis Metropolitan Police vehicle attempted to stop Hamilton's vehicle after witnessing a traffic violation. However, Hamilton sped off, crashing his vehicle before fleeing the scene. Police apprehended Hamilton and recovered a stolen firearm, a 40 caliber Glock with an extended magazine loaded with 30 live rounds.

Hamilton admitted to fleeing the scene because he had the stolen firearm in his vehicle. The officers recovered the firearm during the investigation.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department investigated this case, and Assistant United States Attorney Tom Mehan is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Hamilton faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a fine of not more than $250,000. He may also be subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. In determining the actual sentence, the Judge will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges.

A U.S. District Judge accepted Hamilton's plea and set his sentencing date for December 5, 2019.

Mikal Hamilton is now awaiting sentencing and may face significant prison time and fines as a result of his crime.
