Miles Davis, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Missouri 2019
In a major blow to St. Louis' streets, Miles Davis, 36, has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his role in a string of crimes.
Davis pleaded guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of possession with intent to distribute.
The charges stem from an incident on October 9, 2019, when officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were patrolling the 4000 block of Pleasant. They noticed Davis watching their patrol car suspiciously, and after grabbing his satchel, he hid between two parked cars.
Concerned that Davis was either grabbing or getting rid of a weapon, one SLMPD officer approached him. As the officer drew near, Davis removed a Hi-Pointe 9mm caliber pistol from the satchel and threw it under one of the parked cars. The officer ordered Davis to come out from between the cars, handcuffed him, and advised him of his Miranda rights.
Davis told the officer that when he saw the police, he was scared because he is a convicted felon. A computer check verified his status, and the handgun recovered from under the parked car was discovered to have seven rounds of ammunition. Police also found multiple bags of cocaine base (crack) and fentanyl on Davis.
During the investigation, Davis admitted to selling drugs and trading one of the pistols for the drugs. The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski as part of the Safer Streets Initiative.
Missouri Attorney General Schmitt and U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen launched the initiative in January 2019 to combat violent crime in St. Louis. The partnership has resulted in numerous convictions and sentences, making the streets safer for the residents of St. Louis.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney's Office said, "The Safer Streets Initiative is dedicated to working with law enforcement and the community to reduce violent crime in St. Louis. We are committed to holding accountable those who break the law and threaten the safety of our citizens."
