Mohamed Bahi, Witness Tampering, New York 2026

Former New York City Hall official Mohamed Bahi has been charged with witness tampering and destruction of evidence in connection with a federal investigation of unlawful contributions to a particular 2021 mayoral campaign.

According to a complaint unsealed in Manhattan federal court, Bahi, who served as a Senior Liaison in the Community Affairs Unit of the mayoral administration, allegedly instructed witnesses to lie and then destroyed evidence in an effort to obstruct the investigation.

The charges unsealed today should leave no doubt about the seriousness of any effort to interfere with a federal investigation, particularly when undertaken by a government employee, said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams.

Bahi was arrested on [insert date] and will be presented before United States Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger in Manhattan federal court.

The investigation, led by the FBI and DOI, is ongoing and has been investigating the receipt of straw contributions by the 2021 mayoral campaign.

As alleged in the Complaint, Bahi was involved in organizing a fundraiser for the campaign in December 2020, where four employees of a construction company made contributions in their own names, but were actually funded by the company's CEO.

The charges against Bahi include witness tampering and destruction of evidence. He faces serious consequences for his actions and will be held accountable for any wrongdoing.
