Montell Keith, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Missouri 2021
A shocking display of lawlessness has rocked the streets of St. Louis, as Montell Keith, a 23-year-old resident of the city, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The crime took place on December 8, 2019, when officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were notified that a white Toyota Camry, reported stolen on December 3, was parked at an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Goodfellow Place.
While canvassing, officers located the Camry parked on the south parking lot, and Keith, identified by officers as the driver, drove away from the parking lot. The officers got back in their patrol car to follow and observed Keith running from the Camry.
As Keith fled the scene, officers watched as he threw a pistol on the ground. The officers chased Keith and eventually arrested him. An officer returned to where he saw Keith throw the pistol and found a loaded 9mm pistol, which had been reported stolen on December 2, 2019.
Keith's prior conviction of at least one felony crime makes him a prime example of the dangers of repeat offenders. His actions put the lives of innocent people at risk, and it is a miracle that no one was harmed.
Judge Stephen R. Clark has set sentencing for July 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski is handling the case.
The people of St. Louis deserve to feel safe in their community, and it is up to the authorities to ensure that justice is served. Montell Keith's guilty plea is a step in the right direction, but it is only the beginning.
