**Convicted Killer Stabbed Cellmate Over 30 Times in Prisons Rampage**
LONDON, Ky. – In a chilling incident of prison violence, 42-year-old Mufid Elfgeeh was convicted by a federal jury in London, Kentucky, for attempting to murder his cellmate.
The crime occurred while Elfgeeh was serving a 270-month sentence for attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. According to the investigation, Elfgeeh, upset that the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) had not complied with his request for a private cell, turned to violent means to settle the score.
Elfgeeh used an improvised weapon to stab his cellmate at least 30 times, ignoring numerous verbal commands to stop the attack. The assault continued even after prison staff, armed with OC spray, OC vapor grenades, foam batons, pepper balls, and hornet nest munitions, intervened.
It took the staff, outfitted with protective gear, breaching the cell and restraining Elfgeeh to finally bring the assault to an end. The defendant’s actions were a stark reminder of the dangers of prison violence and the measures that must be taken to prevent such incidents.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Pearce Nesbitt represented the government in the case, which was investigated by the FBI. Elfgeeh will appear for sentencing on September 1, 2026, where he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
