Multiple Defendants, Smuggling, Puerto Rico 2026
San Juan, Puerto Rico - The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Puerto Rico, Héctor Ramírez-Carbó, Acting United States Attorney, in conjunction with our partner agencies in the Homeland Security Task Force ('HSTF') announce the following prosecutorial results for the week of June 29 through July 2, 2026.
On June 30, 2026, Jose Luis Santiago, 42, of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, pleaded guilty to Smuggling Goods into the United States (18 U.S.C. § 545) and Conspiracy to Smuggle Goods into the United States (18 U.S.C. § 545 and 18 U.S.C. § 371).
On June 29, 2026, Carlos Alberto Torres, 38, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, pleaded guilty to Smuggling Goods into the United States (18 U.S.C. § 545) and Conspiracy to Smuggle Goods into the United States (18 U.S.C. § 545 and 18 U.S.C. § 371).
These convictions are the result of an ongoing investigation by the HSTF, which is a permanent, interagency law enforcement task force created by executive order to combat transnational criminal organizations, including cartels and trafficking networks.
