SCRANTON - In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 26-year-old Mykayliah Hevener, of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for producing child pornography.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Hevener engaged in sexual contact with a toddler and used the child to create images and videos of child pornography, which were either viewed live or sent over the internet to a co-conspirator, Benjamin Egli, of Iowa.
The production of child pornography, a serious federal offense, involved Hevener's interaction with a toddler over an approximate nine-month period in 2023. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) and the Tipton, Iowa Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Luisa Honora Berti prosecuted the case, bringing it to justice through the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
