Nekie Ricks, Cocaine Trafficking, New York 2022
A Schenectady man is facing serious charges after being accused of possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute and firearm offenses. Nekie Ricks, age 31, was ordered detained following his indictment and arrest.
According to the indictment, on August 24, 2022, Ricks possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute it, possessed a pistol in furtherance of that crime, and possessed that firearm even though he was a previously convicted felon.
The charges filed against Ricks carry a prison term of at least 5 years and up to life, a fine of up to $1 million, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 3 years and up to life.
Ricks was arraigned yesterday in Albany, before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel. Following a detention hearing today, Ricks was ordered detained pending trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Wentworth-Ping is prosecuting the case. The ATF is investigating the case with assistance from the Schenectady Police Department and New York State Police.
The charges are merely accusations, and Ricks is presumed innocent until proven guilty. His sentence will be imposed by a judge based on the particular statute he is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors.
