Nicholas Otter Robe, Burglary, South Dakota 2020

A Pine Ridge man was sentenced for causing extensive damage to vehicles and federal property at the Pine Ridge School.

Nicholas Otter Robe, age 20, was sentenced on February 25, 2020, to 5 years of probation, ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and $40,700 in restitution.

Otter Robe was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2018, and charged with Third Degree Burglary.

The crime took place on June 2, 2018, at the Pine Ridge School, where Otter Robe caused in excess of $40,700 damage to a Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Suburban.

According to the investigation, Otter Robe broke a window to gain entrance to the school and entered various offices and multiple classrooms, leaving a path of destruction to federal and school property in his wake.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

Under the terms of the sentence, Otter Robe will serve 5 years of probation, pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and pay $40,700 in restitution.
