Raleigh Man Sentenced to 72 Months in Prison for Possessing Firearms While Being a Convicted Felon
Nicholas Travon Edwards, a 21-year-old resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for possessing firearms while being a convicted felon. On December 11, 2019, the Raleigh Police Department conducted a search at Edwards' residence, where they found a 7.62mm caliber pistol, two 9mm caliber pistols, a model RF-15 5.56 caliber rifle, a .40 caliber pistol, and other firearms and ammunition.
According to court documents, Edwards was convicted of Breaking and Entering in Johnston County District Court on November 16, 2017. He pleaded guilty to breaking into a building in Wendell, North Carolina, and stealing equipment belonging to Traynor's Tree Service on June 20, 2017.
The investigation revealed that one of the firearms found in Edwards' residence was stolen. The Raleigh Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel W. Smith prosecuting the case.
U.S. District Judge Richard E. Myers II presided over the sentencing hearing, where Edwards was sentenced to 72 months in prison. U.S. Attorney Robert J. Higdon, Jr. made the announcement.
