Nicolas Edward Wilson, Child Pornography, South Dakota 2020
Minnesota Man Sentenced to 17.5 Years for Child Pornography
In a shocking case of child exploitation, a Minnesota man has been sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography. Nicolas Edward Wilson, 35, was convicted of Receipt of Child Pornography by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on August 3, 2020.
Nicolas Edward Wilson, a resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison, 5 years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. The court also ordered Wilson to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment.
According to the investigation, Wilson received and distributed child pornography between September 2012 and April 2015. He used his laptop computer to search for images of child pornography on the internet and took pornographic photos of a juvenile female in South Dakota using his cell phone. The victim later disclosed the information to law enforcement, and investigators were able to forensically examine the cell phone and laptop computer to find evidence of the child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons commended the joint efforts of the law enforcement agencies working together to bring Wilson to justice. Parsons stated that 'the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense as well as the courage of a victim to come forward and disclose the traumatic events that occurred to her while she was a teenager.'
The case was investigated by the McCook County Sheriff's Office, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case.
Wilson was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The case serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of child exploitation crimes and the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.
