Kansas City Man Sentenced to 7+ Years for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

Nikko D. Pike, 38, of Kansas City, Kansas, was sentenced to 94 months in federal prison on April 2, 2017, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Pike was involved in a domestic disturbance with a woman, during which he discharged a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol that required the victim to seek treatment in an emergency room at University of Kansas Medical Center.

When police arrived, they saw Pike with a gun protruding from his pocket. Pike barricaded himself in an apartment before surrendering to police. Police found the pistol hidden in a child's bedroom closet.

At the time of the crime, Pike was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a prior felony conviction. He was convicted in Wyandotte County District Court in 2009 on a charge of aggravated battery.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister commended the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jabari Wamble for their work on the case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jabari Wamble of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Kansas. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated.
