Norman George Begay, Jr., Assault, Arizona 2015

A Shonto man will spend the next seven years behind bars after stabbing his victim, leaving them with serious bodily injuries.

Norman George Begay, Jr., 31, of Shonto, Ariz., a member of the Navajo Nation, pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury, which occurred on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

The assault happened on an unknown date prior to the sentencing. Begay was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Douglas L. Rayes to seven years' imprisonment on February 9, 2015.

The investigation was handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Nation Department of Criminal Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Dimitra H. Sampson.

Begay's crime was committed on the Navajo Indian Reservation, which is located in Arizona. He was a resident of Shonto, Ariz., at the time of his arrest.

The case number for Begay's conviction is CR-14-8093-PCT-DLR, and the release number is 2015-014_Begay.
