In a shocking turn of events, Oluwakayode Awosika, a 35-year-old Nigerian national, was brought to justice for his alleged role in a string of violent crimes in Maryland. The case, which was filed on June 13, 2017, at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, made headlines across the nation due to its brazen nature and the severity of the charges against Awosika.
The defendant was accused of multiple counts of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. According to court documents, Awosika was involved in a series of high-profile robberies in the Baltimore area, leaving dozens of victims traumatized and millions of dollars in damages.
Following a lengthy investigation by the Baltimore Police Department and the FBI, Awosika was apprehended on May 15, 2018, at his residence in Catonsville, Maryland. He was subsequently charged with multiple federal crimes, including armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
On November 20, 2018, Awosika pleaded guilty to all counts against him, acknowledging his role in the violent crimes. In a statement to the court, Awosika apologized to his victims and expressed remorse for his actions.
U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang sentenced Awosika to 25 years in federal prison, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. In addition, Awosika was ordered to pay restitution to his victims in the amount of $200,000.
