Crime Wave Hits Columbia, MO: 33 Arrested in Operation Brightside

COLUMBIA, Mo. - A shocking wave of violence has hit the city of Columbia, Missouri, as 33 individuals were arrested in a coordinated effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The operation, dubbed 'Operation Brightside,' aimed to address the growing problem of violent crime in the mid-Missouri area.

The Violent Crime Abatement Team (VCAT), formed in December 2024, brought together a coalition of agencies to tackle the issue. 'Operation Brightside' was a two-day enforcement effort that saw agencies work together to serve warrants, arrest violent offenders, and gather evidence for successful prosecution.

Partner agencies involved in the operation include the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Columbia Police Department (CPD), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), and United States Marshals Service (USMS).

U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price praised the effort, stating, 'Operation Brightside is an example of the extraordinary impact that law enforcement can have when we combine our resources and focus collectively on violent crime.'

The results of the operation speak for themselves: 33 individuals were arrested, with all but one facing felony charges. 19 federal indictments were issued, and 21 felony state warrants were served. Six residential search warrants were also executed.
