Oscar Paz-Mejia, Illegal Re-Entry of Removed Alien, Louisiana 2026
New Orleans, LA - A Honduran national has been indicted for allegedly re-entering the United States after being deported in 2023.
Oscar Paz-Mejia, 33, a native of Honduras, was found to have allegedly re-entered the U.S. on May 26, 2026, according to the indictment.
According to the indictment, Paz-Mejia was previously deported on or about May 24, 2023.
United States Attorney David I. Courcelle announced the indictment, stating that Paz-Mejia faces up to ten years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
The indictment charges Paz-Mejia with violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), which prohibits the re-entry of a removed alien.
Courcelle reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
