Oscar Zavala, Fentanyl Trafficking, Connecticut 2021
A California man has been sentenced to 45 months in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation in Connecticut.
According to court documents, Oscar Zavala, 43, also known as 'Manuel Garcia Martinez,' 'Oscar Rangel Zavala,' and 'Oscar Zavala Rangel,' was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in Bridgeport to 45 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for trafficking fentanyl.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration's Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, revealed that Zavala was a member of an organization that was distributing heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine in and around Bridgeport.
On December 20, 2019, Zavala met an individual in a parking lot in San Diego and provided him with 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl in exchange for $27,000.
On February 10, 2020, Zavala was arrested. A search of a storage locker in San Diego that Zavala had access to revealed approximately six kilograms of cocaine.
Zavala has been detained since his arrest. On February 23, 2021, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karen L. Peck and Lauren C. Clark through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Program.
