Published December 19, 2019

A brazen bank robber, Patrick Acierno, 34, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for robbing four banks and a convenience store, netting over $26,000 in stolen cash.

On March 5, 2019, Acierno donned a black hooded sweatshirt, black mask, sunglasses, and blue latex gloves before entering the KeyBank at 9605 Harmony Drive in Ingomar, Pennsylvania. He handed the tellers a note demanding cash, making off with $7,743, including eight $20 'bait bills.'

Acierno fled on foot, but was chased down by Franklin Park Police after they identified his getaway vehicle, a blue Toyota Rav 4. Inside the vehicle, police found the stolen cash, as well as the items Acierno wore during the robbery.

This was not Acierno's first rodeo. He committed three additional bank robberies on September 12, 2018, at the PNC Bank in Cranberry, on November 12, 2018, at the West View Savings Bank in Wexford, and December 5, 2018, at the WesBanco Bank in Monaca. He also robbed the Cogos convenience store in Monaca on October 11, 2018.

Acierno was sentenced by United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose to 57 months in prison, followed by 36 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim banks and convenience store, totaling $26,053.

The investigation into Acierno's crimes was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cranberry Police Department, the Franklin Park Police Department, the Center Township Police Department, the McCandless Police Department, and the Monaca Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
