Norwalk Gang Member Sentenced to 37 Months for Unlawful Gun Possession

A Norwalk gang member has been sentenced to serve 37 months in prison for possessing a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number. Patrick Elmore, 33, of Norwalk, was sentenced on July 11, 2024 by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport.

According to court documents, the FBI's Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force has been investigating gang violence in Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford. Elmore is a member of a violent Norwalk street gang and was previously convicted of felony drug distribution and weapon possession offenses.

Elmore's arrest on a state warrant on April 12, 2023 led to the discovery of a loaded SCCY, model CPX-2, 9mm semiautomatic handgun with an obliterated serial number. The firearm violations are a result of a federal law that prohibits individuals previously convicted of a felony offense from possessing a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

The FBI's Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force, the Bridgeport Police Department, and the Norwalk Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Gresham prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and other violent crime in communities.

Elmore has been detained since his federal arrest on May 25, 2023. He pleaded guilty on July 11, 2024 to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

This prosecution is part of the Justice Department's violent crime reduction strategy, which includes fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce gun violence and other violent crime. For more information about the program, visit www.justice.gov/psn.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat gang violence and gun crime in the region. As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to keeping communities safe and holding accountable those who engage in violent crime.
