Bomb Plot in Garden City, Kansas, Foiled by FBI

On April 18, 2018, a federal jury in Kansas convicted three men of conspiring to detonate a bomb at an apartment complex in Garden City, Kansas, where Somali Muslims lived.

Patrick Eugene Stein, 49, of Wright, Kansas, Curtis Allen, 51, of Liberal, Kansas, and Gavin Wright, 53, of Beaver County, Oklahoma, were found guilty of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiring to violate the housing rights of their anticipated victims.

The plot was to blow up the apartment complex, which contained a mosque, in an attempt to kill Somali Muslim immigrants who lived there. The jury also found Gavin Wright guilty of lying to the FBI about his involvement in the plot.

The evidence presented during the trial revealed that the defendants had been planning the attack for several months, holding secret meetings to discuss their plan and taking steps to acquire materials needed to carry out the bombing.

The FBI and local law enforcement agencies worked together to uncover the plot and bring the defendants to justice. The conviction of the three men is a significant victory against domestic terrorism and hate crimes.

The case highlights the dangers of hate and intolerance and the importance of protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their background or faith. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to prevent similar attacks and bring perpetrators to justice.

The defendants will face 25, 26, and 30 years in prison, respectively, for their roles in the plot.
