Rapid City Man Sentenced to 8 Years Imprisonment for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine
A Rapid City man was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in western South Dakota, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Patrick Greenfield, 32, was sentenced on May 2, 2022, by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken for his involvement in the distribution of between 1.5 and 5 kilograms of methamphetamine in the region.
Greenfield was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 17, 2020, and pleaded guilty on December 6, 2021. He was responsible for distributing methamphetamine in western South Dakota, but the exact scope of his involvement is unclear.
The case was investigated by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET), the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. UNET is comprised of law enforcement from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the South Dakota National Guard and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case, which has seen several others charged in the conspiracy receive their sentences. Some defendants have trial dates pending, although no further information was available.
Greenfield was immediately returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing.
The conspiracy involved the distribution of significant amounts of methamphetamine, with Greenfield responsible for a substantial portion of the total. The exact dollar amount of the methamphetamine involved was not disclosed.
