Paul Ramirez, Bank Robbery, New Mexico 2022

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A brazen bank robbery shook the Albuquerque streets on November 1 as Paul Ramirez, 33, allegedly entered a Bank of the West location on a motorcycle and presented a demand note to a teller.

The teller, complying with the demand, handed over an undisclosed amount of money to Ramirez, who placed it in a bag and fled the scene.

Albuquerque police, responding to the robbery, spotted Ramirez and gave chase. He allegedly discarded his helmet, backpack, and some articles of clothing in an off-road area before continuing to an apartment, where he was eventually apprehended by officers.

At the time of his arrest, Ramirez was in possession of the stolen cash, further solidifying the evidence against him. An indictment was handed down on December 8, charging Ramirez with bank robbery.

Paul Ramirez, 33, of Albuquerque, appeared in federal court on December 27 on the bank robbery charge. He will remain in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for December 29.

An indictment is only an accusation, and a defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty. If convicted, Ramirez faces up to 20 years in prison.

The FBI Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force, in cooperation with the Albuquerque Police Department, led the investigation into the bank robbery. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaymie L. Roybal is prosecuting the case.

Paul Ramirez's next court appearance will be a detention hearing on December 29, where a judge will determine his bond status. The prosecution's efforts will continue to push for justice in this case.
