BOSTON - A brazen bank robbery in Quincy left a teller shaken and a community on high alert. But for Perry C. Learning, 36, of Quincy, the crime would ultimately lead to his downfall.

On Dec. 15, 2015, an individual entered a branch of Citizens Bank in Quincy and demanded money from a teller. The teller gave the individual $1,480 from her drawer, and the individual exited the bank.

The bank's surveillance cameras captured images of the individual, and surveillance cameras on neighboring businesses captured images of the robber walking away. Photographs of the robber were disseminated to law enforcement who recognized the individual as Perry Learning.

On Jan. 11, 2016, Learning was arrested. His arrest marked the beginning of the end of a crime spree that would ultimately land him in prison.

Perry C. Learning, a Quincy man, was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston for bank robbery. U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani sentenced Learning to 30 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay restitution of $1,480 to Citizens Bank.

Learning pleaded guilty to one count of unarmed bank robbery in July 2017. The charges against him were severe, but the sentence handed down was a reflection of the severity of the crime. Bank robbery is a serious offense that can have far-reaching consequences for both the victims and the community at large.
